Avengers Endgame Encore: Here's what you'll see in the 4 new scenes about Doomsday
The theatrical re-release of the 2019 hit sets the stage for the new Marvel movie
With the re-release of "Avengers: Endgame," you won't just get to see the 2019 movie in theaters. It's worth staying in your seat even after the credits roll. That's because this screening features additional scenes that serve as a bridge to the upcoming Marvel blockbuster "Avengers: Doomsday." It's now clear what this new footage has to offer. As reported by several media outlets, "Avengers: Endgame Encore" features four additional scenes that serve as a bridge to "Avengers: Doomsday." Below, we describe what each one shows. But be warned: We'd like to explicitly point out the spoilers that come with this information.
A visit for Steve Rogers, aka Captain America
The first scene focuses on Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. His story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe had actually come to a satisfying conclusion in "Avengers: Endgame," where it was once assumed that we would never see the character again. As has been known for some time, however, the superhero will make a comeback in "Avengers: Doomsday." The new scene in "Avengers: Endgame Encore" sets the stage for Chris Evans' return as Steve Rogers.
At the end of "Avengers: Endgame," Rogers had traveled back in time to live out his life with his great love, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), in the 1940s. In the new scene, however, the two receive a visit from an old acquaintance: Suddenly, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) appears at the door. The former villain is wearing the uniform of the Time Variance Authority. Does this perhaps suggest that Steve Rogers' time travel had repercussions for the multiverse that now need to be discussed with the Time Variance Authority? We'll have to wait and see. In any case, the organization – which monitors various timelines – also plays a role in the next scene.
Multiverse collapses, Hulk returns
As is already known, the multiverse – or rather, the collision of different universes – is set to be a central element in "Avengers: Doomsday." This is also referenced in the second scene, which takes place within the Time Variance Authority and features, among others, Owen Wilson in the role of Mobius, a character he previously played in the "Loki" series. Together with several other characters, he observes that worlds are colliding. What's more, it appears that the entire multiverse is on the verge of collapsing.
The third scene bridges the gap from "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" to "Avengers: Doomsday." Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), finds himself in a secure medical facility following the Spider-Man movie, which recently broke yet another record, as KinoCheck reported. Suddenly, the villain Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) appears there. Banner then transforms into the Hulk to confront Doom. It remains to be seen what will happen next with the Hulk. However, as the scene suggests, he could play an important role in Doom's plans.
Are Doctor Doom and Iron Man two sides of the same coin?
The fourth scene also features Doctor Doom. Specifically, it shows him forging his metal mask. An intriguing detail: The same sound of clanging metal can be heard here that was also featured in 2019 at the end of the credits of the original theatrical release of "Avengers: Endgame." Back then, the sound referenced how Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, once forged his superhero armor. Now, the same sound represents the villain Doctor Doom, who, like Iron Man, is also played by Robert Downey Jr. So are Doctor Doom and Iron Man two sides of the same coin? Given the existence of different universes, it certainly can't be ruled out that Robert Downey Jr.'s casting could also have significance in terms of the story in "Avengers: Doomsday."
