First Casting Candidates for the Reboot Revealed

Insider Reports on Recasting of Rogue and Beast for the New Marvel Film

© 20th Century Fox

The X-Men are back! Professor X, Magneto and more will soon be appearing in the highly anticipated "Avengers: Doomsday". But the future of the "X-Men" is already set beyond that. A new "X-Men" movie is in development! According to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, Marvel has now set its sights on two new actors for the project.

Odessa A'zion as Rogue?

Specifically, Sneider discussed the casting of Rogue and Beast on the podcast "The Hot Mic". For Rogue, he mentioned that they are interested in "Marty Supreme" star Odessa A'zion. Rogue is a mutant with the ability to absorb the memories, powers, and life energy of others through physical touch. In the original "X-Men" films, Rogue is one of the central characters and was portrayed by Anna Paquin. There, she meets Professor X and attends his school for gifted youngsters.

Peter Claffey as Beast?

Marvel may also have a candidate in mind for Beast. Sneider mentions the name Peter Claffey. The actor most recently garnered attention as the lead character Dunk in the "Game of Thrones" spin-off "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms". Beast (aka Hank McCoy) is a mutant known for his unique combination of superhuman intelligence and physical strength. The character has been played in the past by Kelsey Grammer and Nicholas Hoult. Grammer will reprise the role in "Doomsday".

What We Know About the New X-Men Film

However, Sneider emphasizes that nothing is finalized yet. The casting of A'zion and Claffey is not confirmed; they are merely candidates Marvel is reportedly interested in. Nevertheless, the casting process could begin soon. After all, a key step in production was recently completed: the creative team is in place.

The reboot will be directed by "Thunderbolts" director Jake Schreier. Most recently, a new writing team has also been brought on board: Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. All three worked together on "Thunderbolts". So, a well-established team awaits us for the new "X-Men" film. You can find out more about the creative team and what they're planning for the new "X-Men" film here.

Possible Release Date

Exactly when the film will be released is still uncertain at this point. A 2028 release seems realistic. A look at the theatrical calendar shows that Disney has scheduled four slots for as-yet-untitled Marvel films in 2028. It's quite possible that the "X-Men" film will premiere on one of those dates.

The X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday

But for now, Marvel fans are looking forward to "Avengers: Doomsday" and the return of several original "X-Men" actors such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden. A first teaser already offers a glimpse of what's to come.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

The X-Men on the Big Screen

For many fans, the return of the mutants to the big screen is also a trip down memory lane – after all, the "X-Men" films have had a decisive influence on superhero cinema for more than two decades.

It all began in 2000 with "X-Men", directed by Bryan Singer. The film is considered a pioneer of modern superhero cinema, long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe came into being. At the center are the mutants – people with special abilities who live in a world that fears and rejects them. With characters like Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen), the film established central conflicts surrounding integration, discrimination, and power. Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, also quickly became a fan favorite.

The sequels "X2" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" continued the story and, in particular, deepened the tensions between humans and mutants. While "X2" is often cited as one of the best superhero films of its time, the third installment received a somewhat mixed reception.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

The 2011 Reboot

The franchise was reimagined in 2011 with "X-Men: First Class". The film tells the backstory of Professor X and Magneto and sets the plot during the Cold War. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender took on the younger versions of the iconic characters.

This was followed by "X-Men: Days of Future Past", which brought the old and new casts together and incorporated time travel, as well as "X-Men: Apocalypse" and "X-Men: Dark Phoenix". These films expanded the universe, focused more on ensemble stories, and reimagined familiar comic book storylines.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Spin-offs: Wolverine and Deadpool

At the same time, the "X-Men" universe continued to evolve through spin-offs. Wolverine was a particular focus with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", "The Wolverine", and the highly acclaimed "Logan". The latter presented a significantly darker, more mature version of the character and is considered by many to be one of the best superhero movies of all time.

The "Deadpool" films starring Ryan Reynolds struck a completely different tone. "Deadpool", "Deadpool 2", and "Deadpool & Wolverine" deliberately broke with the conventions of the genre. With their self-deprecating humor, direct address to the audience, and a much edgier tone, they became huge hits and significantly expanded the scope of the "X-Men" universe. The "X-Men" world was further expanded with the film "New Mutants".

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

TV Shows in the "X-Men" Universe

The franchise has also expanded into the realm of TV shows. "Legion" told a standalone, psychologically driven story centered on a powerful mutant and stood out stylistically from the films. "The Gifted", on the other hand, presented a more classic scenario: a family on the run from a world that persecutes mutants. However, "X-Men '97" is particularly popular among fans.

Overall, the "X-Men" films have had a lasting impact on the superhero genre – from the first serious comic book adaptations to experimental spin-offs and TV series. With the upcoming reboot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise now faces another fresh start, one that is set to finally usher the mutants into the next era.

"Ray Gunn" is the new film from the creator of "The Incredibles": Brad Bird. An exact release date for the animated film has not yet been set. However, "Ray Gunn" is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2026, as the streaming service announced. The images in our article give you a first glimpse of the film.

"Ray Gunn" is set in an alternate future. The plot centers on the title character, Raymond Gunn, a private detective who stands out as an anomaly in the sprawling city of Metropia. That's because, in this world, most investigative work has been taken over by machines. Soon, Gunn is drawn into a case involving aliens and murder. And Venus Nova, the world's most famous pop star. Despite her success, her scandals are becoming a problem for the artist: not only is her career at stake—but possibly her life as well.

© Netflix

Renowned voice actors for Raymond Gunn and Venus Nova

Two renowned voice actors were secured for the two protagonists. The character of Raymond Gunn is voiced by Sam Rockwell, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and was most recently seen in the science fiction film "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die." Scarlett Johansson, in turn, lends her voice to Venus Nova. The actress also boasts an impressive filmography. In addition to smaller dramas like "Marriage Story," she has also appeared in blockbusters such as "Jurassic World: Rebirth." Among her best-known roles is the superhero Black Widow, who has already helped save the world in several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She speaks enthusiastically about her work on "Ray Gunn." Netflix quotes her as saying:

"Having the opportunity to collaborate with Brad Bird is a career milestone for me. I have loved his work my entire life. This project is so uniquely special because it is a total realization of where Brad is currently on his artistic journey. I can't wait for audiences to see this extraordinary animation that looks like nothing else out there."

Tom Waits takes on another role in the animated film. The musician and actor voices Eyera, a one-eyed alien whom the protagonist Raymond Gunn trusts like no other.

© Netflix

"A blend of sci-fi and classic detective movies from the '40s"

Brad Bird serves as director and producer on "Ray Gunn." He also co-wrote the screenplay with Matthew Robbins. The idea for "Ray Gunn" has been in Bird's mind for over 30 years. The animated film's retrofuturistic look stems from a blend of two genres he envisioned from the start. Netflix quotes him as saying:

"It was always meant to be a blend of sci-fi and classic detective movies from the '40s."

In doing so, "Ray Gunn" aims to prove once again that animated films aren't just for kids—and thus dispel a prejudice that, despite countless counterexamples, still persists. For Bird, one thing is certain:

"Animation as a medium is too interesting to limit what kind of stories can be told."

Brad Bird: Animation Hits and Mission Impossible

His love for the art of animation was already evident in Brad Bird's directorial debut, "The Iron Giant." The animated film about the friendship between a boy and a giant robot won over critics and laid the foundation for further acclaimed films, including the Pixar hits "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille." In addition to animated films, however, Bird has also distinguished himself in the live-action genre. His "Mission: Impossible" film "Ghost Protocol" is one of the highlights of the action series starring Tom Cruise.

And what does the future hold? In addition to "Ray Gunn," another installment of "The Incredibles" is in the works. The third adventure of the titular superhero family is set to follow in 2028. Unlike the first two installments of the successful animated film series, however, "Incredibles 3" will not be directed by Brad Bird. This time, Peter Sohn is at the helm. Bird is, however, once again involved in the story.

The time has finally come: a "Metal Gear Solid" movie is in the works! After the project was stuck in development hell for over a decade, there is now concrete news for all Solid Snake fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B.
Lipovsky and Stein stated in a joint statement that they feel deeply honored to bring Hideo Kojima's legendary stealth-action saga to life. They described the original game as a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that revolutionized the world of video games forever.

A film adaptation was previously announced in 2012, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. At the time, Oscar Isaac was set to play the role of elite soldier Solid Snake. It is not yet known whether Lipovsky and Stein will stick with Isaac as the lead actor. According to initial reports, we can expect a film that is entertaining, commercially successful, and character-driven. A release date has not yet been announced.

The Legacy of Outer Heaven: Why Metal Gear Solid Changed the Video Game World Forever

When a lone submarine entered the waters of the fictional island of Shadow Moses in Alaska on September 3, 1998, it marked the beginning of more than just a risky infiltration mission. It was the moment when the medium of video games lost its innocence and came of age. Hideo Kojima's "Metal Gear Solid" for the first PlayStation is far more than just a successful title; it is a cultural phenomenon whose significance in video game history can hardly be overstated. But what accounts for the cult status of this series, which continues to captivate millions of fans worldwide to this day?

© Konami

The Birth of "Cinematic Gaming"

Before "Metal Gear Solid" (MGS) was released, stories in video games were often utilitarian. You rescued princesses or defeated aliens, while the plot was usually told through short text boxes or simple animations between levels. Kojima broke with this tradition. He used the PlayStation's limited processing power to create a cinematic experience unlike anything that had come before.

With the use of professional voice acting, dynamic camera movements, and long, gripping cutscenes rendered in-game graphics, "MGS" blurred the line between film and game. Kojima, a self-proclaimed cineaste, brought techniques like depth of field and dramatic cuts to a medium that had previously been viewed more as a toy. In doing so, he laid the foundation for what we now call "cinematic gaming" – a standard that modern blockbusters like "The Last of Us" or "God of War" still follow today.

Stealth Instead of Mindless Gunplay: A Gaming Revolution

"MGS" also defined an entire genre: the stealth-action game. While other action titles of the 90s focused on eliminating every enemy in the room, "MGS" rewarded the player for doing the opposite. As Solid Snake, you were outnumbered, alone against an army. Shadows became your ally, cardboard boxes your iconic hiding spots.

This strategic component challenged players' intelligence. You had to study patrol patterns, avoid making noise, and use gadgets wisely. "Tactical Espionage Action" was born. "MGS" taught us that restraint can be more exciting than pure aggression – a lesson that games like Splinter Cell or Hitman later perfected.

© Konami

Breaking the Fourth Wall

However, what ultimately elevated "Metal Gear Solid" to the pantheon of video games was Kojima's delight in experimenting with the player's reality. The battle against Psycho Mantis, an antagonist with telepathic abilities, is legendary. Mantis "read" the player's memory card and commented on other installed games like Castlevania. He even forced the player to switch the controller port on the console to circumvent his mind control.

Such meta-elements turned the game into an interactive experience that extended far beyond the screen. Kojima used the medium itself as part of the narrative and proved that video games are a form of art capable of playing with their audience's expectations in a way that no book or film can.

Political Depth and Philosophical Questions

In terms of content, the series set standards that remain unmatched to this day. Behind the façade of a spy thriller lay complex explorations of nuclear deterrence, genetics, the manipulation of information, and a soldier's legacy. In "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" (2001), Kojima already addressed the dangers of memes, algorithms, and digital censorship – topics that seem alarmingly prophetic in today's age of social media and fake news.

The characters were not one-dimensional heroes or villains. Even antagonists like Sniper Wolf or The Boss (in "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater") were given tragic backstories that evoked genuine empathy in the player. MGS forced its audience to question the morality of war and the orders one carried out as a player.

An Enduring Legacy

The cult status of "Metal Gear Solid" stems from this unique blend of technical innovation, gameplay depth, and an almost eccentric artistic vision. Hideo Kojima created a world that was simultaneously silly (think of the countless jokes about excrement or the humor in radio communications) and deeply philosophical.

Today, nearly 30 years after the first installment, the series' significance to the industry is well established. It proved that video games can tell complex stories, make political statements, and be pure entertainment all at once. The announcement of new remakes and films shows that the appetite for the world of Solid Snake and Big Boss remains undiminished. "Metal Gear Solid" is not just a game – it is a monument to the boundless creativity of a medium that continually surpasses itself.

Spaceballs: The Cult Classic from the '80s

The original "Spaceballs" is still considered one of the great cult films of the science fiction genre – primarily because it brilliantly parodies the genre itself. Directed by Mel Brooks, who also co-wrote the screenplay and starred in the film, a comedy was created in the late 1980s that deliberately pokes fun at well-known sci-fi classics. Above all, the "Star Wars" films served as inspiration, with their themes, characters, and iconic moments exaggerated and humorously reimagined in the film.

The Plot of the Classic

At the center of the plot is the heroic adventurer Lone Starr, played by Bill Pullman, who, together with his companion Barf, attempts to rescue Princess Vespa. His adversary is the clumsy villain Lord Helmchen, portrayed by Rick Moranis, who, with his oversized helmet, has long since become one of the most iconic figures in film comedy. The ensemble is further enriched by Mel Brooks himself.

© MGM

The Humor of Spaceballs

What sets "Spaceballs" apart is its unique humor: The film combines slapstick, sharp wordplay, and numerous meta-gags that deliberately break the fourth wall. In doing so, it takes aim not only at the science fiction genre but also at Hollywood itself. Many of these jokes have evolved into true running gags over the years and are deeply embedded in pop culture.

Over the years, "Spaceballs" has become a cult classic, building a steadily growing fan base primarily through TV broadcasts and home video releases. Today, the film is considered one of the most influential examples of successful genre parodies – and it is precisely this cult status that is fueling such great anticipation for "Spaceballs 2."

There's going to be a remake of "Basic Instinct"! The controversial 1992 original became a box office hit – and turned Sharon Stone into a global star. Now, former screenwriter Joe Eszterhas is working on a reboot of the cult thriller.

In an interview with The Guardian, he revealed that the story centers on a group of copycat killers. Supernatural elements are also said to play a significant role. He mentioned Emerald Fennell, who most recently directed "Wuthering Heights", as a potential director. However, this was quickly and firmly denied by the filmmaker herself. He also described the project as "anti-woke" and leveled sharp criticism at today's film industry.

While official information about the cast is still being withheld, there has already been a clear and extremely sharp rejection from one quarter. In a typically direct comment to The Guardian, Sharon Stone expressed massive doubts about Eszterhas's current abilities. It is not yet known when the reboot will be released or whether Michael Douglas will return in his role.

Movie recommendations in the style of "Basic Instinct"

The erotic thriller from the 1990s defined a genre all its own, one that thrives on a cool, shadowy aesthetic, dangerous obsessions, and a moral gray area. Paul Verhoeven's 1992 masterpiece "Basic Instinct" remains the ultimate expression of this style to this day. The film is known not only for its infamous interrogation scene, but above all for its cool, noir atmosphere and the highly intelligent psychological cat-and-mouse game between Catherine Tramell and Nick Curran. But cinema also has a number of other films to offer that carry the same dangerous DNA.

© StudioCanal

The Birth of Modern Obsession

Before Sharon Stone took up the ice-pick scepter, Kathleen Turner redefined the image of the modern femme fatale in the classic "Body Heat". In the sweltering heat of Florida, a story unfolds that you can literally feel through the screen. As in "Basic Instinct", a supposedly clever lawyer is completely manipulated by his uncontrollable desire.

It is a slow, almost hypnotic descent into crime, where passion is the only currency that counts. This film laid the foundation for the aesthetic of the erotic thriller by dressing up the classic film noir of the 1940s in a modern, more revealing guise.

The clinical perfection of manipulation

Several decades later, David Fincher took up these themes and perfected them in his film "Gone Girl". The protagonist, Amy Dunne, can be seen as the spiritual successor to Catherine Tramell, as she is just as highly intelligent and manipulative and is always three steps ahead of the law.

The film captivates with its clinically pristine visuals and razor-sharp editing, which creates a deeply unsettling effect. The unpredictability of the plot, in particular, mirrors the feeling of "Basic Instinct", as the viewer can never be certain who is actually the victim and who is the perpetrator in this cruel game. This is less about the physical act and more about total control over the narrative and one's fellow human beings.

© 20th Century Studios

Playing with expectations and the sleaze factor

Anyone who appreciates Paul Verhoeven's provocative and sometimes almost campy undertones cannot miss the film "Wild Things". In the glittering but morally rotten swamps of Florida, a labyrinth of twists and double meanings unfolds. Sex is consistently used here as a weapon and a means of power, with the film deliberately playing on the audience's voyeuristic expectations. The result is an atmosphere that feels both cheap and brilliantly constructed, making the film a prime example of the excessive thriller of the late '90s. Here, no one trusts anyone, and every revelation merely leads deeper into a swamp of greed and betrayal.

The Return of the Master and the End of Taboos

To truly understand the fascination with this style, it's worth taking a look at the master's own late work. In "Elle", Paul Verhoeven once again demonstrates why he is the king of provocation. Isabelle Huppert portrays a woman who, after an assault, begins a psychological power game with her attacker rather than assuming the role of victim. The film breaks every social taboo and denies the audience a simple moral judgment.

As in "Basic Instinct", the boundaries between pain and pleasure, as well as between right and wrong, blur in a way that keeps the viewer thinking long after the credits roll. Films like this challenge us to question our own moral boundaries while we watch, fascinated, as the characters run headlong into their doom. The aesthetics of danger remain a timeless motif of cinema that captivates us time and again.

When can we expect the next installment full of dinosaur action? It has been rumored for some time that a new "Jurassic World" movie is in development. An insider report now offers the first clues as to what the production schedule might look like.

According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, filming is set to begin as early as fall 2026. Scarlett Johansson is also reportedly on board again. The Hollywood star previously played the protagonist Zora Bennett in "Jurassic World: Rebirth". This makes the return of her co-stars Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey seem realistic as well.

New Title for Jurassic World 5?

Recently, a rumor has also been circulating that the new film could be titled "Jurassic World: Liberation." Jeff Sneider, another insider, reported that director Gareth Edwards – known for "Rogue One" and "Jurassic World: Rebirth" – could return to the director's chair.

However, confirmation is still pending. The insider's report should therefore be taken with a grain of salt. If the information about the start of filming is accurate, a release in late 2027 or sometime in 2028 would be realistic. After all, a "Jurassic World" film still requires a significant amount of post-production work. Either way: We'll definitely keep you updated!

A new dinosaur movie is on the way: The End of Oak Street

By the way: Dinosaur fans don't necessarily have to wait until the next "Jurassic World" movie. "The End of Oak Street" is set to hit theaters as early as summer 2026. However, this isn't your typical dinosaur action flick – the first trailer focuses more on a mystery element. With Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the film also boasts a star-studded cast. "The End of Oak Street" hits theaters on August 14, 2026. You can watch the first trailer here!

The Jurassic Phenomenon

The enduring fascination with the "Jurassic" series is no surprise: Since the release of "Jurassic Park" in 1993, the franchise has been one of the most influential and successful film series of all time. Director Steven Spielberg set new standards in visual effects at the time, combining groundbreaking CGI technology with animatronic dinosaurs. The result was not only a global cinematic event but also a cultural phenomenon that has had a lasting impact on the portrayal of dinosaurs in pop culture.

In the years that followed, the story continued with films such as "Jurassic Park: The Lost World" and "Jurassic Park III". While these sequels were commercially successful, it was the first film in particular that maintained its iconic status. In terms of content, the series has always revolved around the central questions of scientific responsibility, the limits of human control, and the consequences when nature cannot be tamed. At the same time, "Jurassic Park" delivers that signature Spielberg sense of adventure.

With "Jurassic World", the franchise was successfully revived over a decade later. The film shifted the action to a fully operational dinosaur theme park, striking a chord with modern blockbuster audiences. This was followed by "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" and "Jurassic World: Dominion," which further expanded the story and ultimately allowed dinosaurs and humans to coexist permanently in a shared world.

The "Jurassic World" series focuses more on spectacular action and global threat scenarios, while the original "Jurassic Park" films relied more on suspense and an almost horror-like atmosphere. Nevertheless, the core remains the same: the unpredictable power of nature and the question of whether humanity is truly ready to tamper with it.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Jurassic World: Rebirth

With "Jurassic World: Rebirth", the franchise was recently steered in a new direction. The film functions less as a continuation of the previous "Jurassic World" series and more as a sort of fresh start. The film focuses on a new plot and new characters. The official plot description reads as follows:

Five years after the events of "Jurassic World Dominion", the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

How closely the next "Jurassic World" film will tie into "Rebirth" remains to be seen. One thing is certain, however: the franchise will continue to be a cornerstone of modern blockbuster cinema.

A high-profile addition to the second season of "Alien: Earth": as reported by Deadline, four-time Emmy Award winner Peter Dinklage is joining the cast of the science fiction series. Details about his role, however, are still undisclosed.

However, details about the "Game of Thrones" star's role are still under wraps. What is known, however, is that the second season will draw even more heavily on Ridley Scott's classic "Alien." A release date has not yet been announced.

There is also an interesting development behind the scenes regarding production. While the first season was filmed in Thailand, the franchise is returning to its geographical roots. Filming for the second season is expected to begin in May at Pinewood Studios in London. The original 1979 film, as well as the sequels "Alien 3" and the prequel "Prometheus," were all produced there.

More Than Tyrion Lannister: The Multifaceted Career of Peter Dinklage

Peter Dinklage is undoubtedly one of the most prominent actors of his generation. While many viewers associate him inextricably with the role of Tyrion Lannister from the fantasy epic "Game of Thrones," his acting career extends far beyond the borders of Westeros.

With a blend of melancholic depth, razor-sharp wit, and an impressive screen presence, he has carved out a permanent place among Hollywood's elite over the decades. In doing so, he has shattered stereotypes about actors of short stature and created complex characters whose physical appearance is often just one of many facets.

© Capelight Pictures

From Insider Tip to Global Star: The Rocky Road to Success

Dinklage's breakthrough certainly didn't happen overnight. As early as 1995, he made his debut in the independent comedy "Living in Oblivion", in which he aptly portrayed an actor frustrated by the clichéd roles offered to people of short stature. The real turning point in his career, however, was the film "The Station Agent" (2003). In this quiet drama, he plays Finbar McBride, a man who retreats to an abandoned train station to escape the world. For this touching performance, Dinklage received rave reviews and was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for the first time.

In the years that followed, he demonstrated his versatility across a wide range of genres. He shone as an eccentric children's book author in the Christmas comedy "Elf" and showcased his comedic talent in the British farce "Death at a Funeral." Yet despite these successes, the role of a lifetime was still waiting for him.

The Era of Tyrion Lannister and the Global Breakthrough

Everything changed when he signed on for HBO's "Game of Thrones" in 2011. As Tyrion Lannister, Dinklage became the moral compass and secret hero of one of the most successful series in television history. His portrayal of the "halfling," who compensates for his physical inferiority with superior intellect and biting sarcasm, earned him a total of four Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Dinklage managed to portray Tyrion as a deeply tragic figure who strives for recognition and justice despite constant humiliation by his own family.

This role opened the doors to major blockbusters for him. He entered the Marvel Universe, first as the antagonist Bolivar Trask in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and later as the giant dwarf Eitri in "Avengers: Infinity War". These castings were not only commercial successes but also a statement: Dinklage was cast in roles that exuded power and authority, regardless of his height.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Between Drama and Blockbusters: His Current Work

Even after "Game of Thrones" ended, Dinklage remained eager to experiment. In the Oscar-winning drama "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri", he delivered a sensitive supporting performance, while in the thriller "I Care a Lot", he revealed a completely new, menacing side of himself as a ruthless gangster boss.

A special labor of love for him was the musical adaptation "Cyrano" (2021). Here, he was able to showcase not only his acting talent but also his singing talent, infusing the classic story of the star-crossed lover with a modern, painful honesty.

Most recently, he enriched the prequel to the "Hunger Games" series, "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes", as Casca Highbottom, the tormented creator of the Hunger Games. The fact that he is now also taking on a leading role in Noah Hawley's "Alien" universe underscores his status as one of the most sought-after character actors of our time. Peter Dinklage has shown that true greatness is not measured in centimeters, but in the ability to hold up a mirror to the audience through empathy and craftsmanship. His journey is far from over, yet his legacy in film history is already secure.

"Marvel Zombies" is apparently heading into its second season! In an interview with The Escape Pod, Brad Winderbaum, who oversees streaming, television, and animation at Marvel, revealed that a second season of the animated series is in the works.

In a recent statement, he revealed that he's already had a first look at the "animatic" – that is, the animated storyboard – for the first episode of Season 2. He described it as "crazy." Even though Winderbaum is considered one of the most reliable sources within the studio, a formal confirmation and a specific release date for the new episodes are still pending. But we'll keep you updated!

A Turning Point in the Multiverse: The Current State and Future of Marvel

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is at a historic turning point in the spring of 2026. After the years following the monumental success of "Avengers: Endgame" were marked by a rapid, almost hasty expansion on Disney+, Marvel Studios, under the leadership of Kevin Feige, has made a significant course correction. The era of countless, sometimes confusing series launches seems to be over. Instead, the studio is now pursuing a strategy of "controlled excellence," in which every new project is once again presented as a true highlight to regain the trust of the global fanbase.

© Disney

Focus on Quality Over Quantity

This strategic shift is clearly evident in the current release calendar. Marvel has reduced the frequency of its releases to give productions more time for post-production and the visual refinement of effects. This is a direct response to criticism from recent years, during which many viewers complained of a certain saturation and a decline in the depth of content.

In 2026, it becomes clear that the studio is once again placing greater emphasis on the principle of event cinema. The goal is to reestablish the Marvel brand as a guarantee of first-class entertainment that impresses with both spectacular action and profound character studies.

The Return of Street Heroes and Icons

A central tenet of the current phase is a return to down-to-earth heroes. The series "Daredevil: Born Again", whose second season premiered in March 2026, is considered the prime example of this new tone. Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio continue their iconic feud in a significantly darker and more mature New York. The success of this series shows that audiences don't always need a threat to the entire universe, but rather crave character-driven stories rooted in the streets of Hell's Kitchen.

This success is reinforced by the upcoming film project "Spider-Man: Brand New Day", scheduled for July 2026. Here, Tom Holland returns in a story that refocuses on Peter Parker's identity after his previous life was erased in the last installment.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

The Year of Destiny: Doomsday and Doctor Doom

However, the absolute highlight of the 2026 movie year is already casting its long shadow: "Avengers: Doomsday", announced for December. With this film, Marvel opens a completely new chapter while simultaneously correcting the course uncertainties of past phases. The spectacular return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU – this time, however, not as Tony Stark, but as the feared antagonist Victor von Doom – has driven expectations to immeasurable heights.

Directed by the returning duo Anthony and Joe Russo, this film is set to bring together the disparate threads of the multiverse and pit the "New Avengers" against a threat that eclipses anything seen before. The decision to cast Downey Jr. as the villain is seen as a masterstroke, leveraging fans' emotional attachment to the franchise for a dramatic turning point.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Expansion Through Animation and Technology

Even away from the big screen, Marvel remains innovative, but is increasingly using animation as a playground for experimental approaches. The sequel to "Marvel Zombies" is a key component of this. As Brad Winderbaum recently hinted, the series will showcase elements previously unthinkable in live-action films and radically expand the boundaries of the MCU.

At the same time, the series "Vision" (often referred to as "VisionQuest"), expected in late 2026, will conclude the trilogy that began with "WandaVision". With the return of Paul Bettany and the reunion with characters like Ultron, Marvel is showing that it is ready to consistently continue telling its own story and place beloved characters in new, philosophical contexts.

Looking Ahead: The Road to Secret Wars

Marvel's current state can thus be described as the calm before the storm. The projects in 2026 serve as the necessary foundation for what is set to culminate in 2027 with "Avengers: Secret Wars". By scaling back to fewer but more significant films – such as the reboot of "Fantastic Four" or the return of Spider-Man – the MCU is regaining its former strength.

It is a phase of reflection, in which old heroes are reinvented and new threats take shape that extend far beyond the multiverse. Marvel impressively demonstrates that it is ready to learn from its mistakes and once again revolutionize the superhero film genre through narrative depth and bold casting decisions.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Disney

The "Gremlins" are returning to the big screen! And now rumors are swirling that Jenna Ortega is in talks for "Gremlins 3." According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, the "Wednesday" star has been offered the lead role in the new film. However, as World of Reel reports, the actress's representatives have since denied Richtman's claim.

So, it's currently impossible to say for sure whether Ortega is actually set to star in "Gremlins 3" or not. The only certainty is that the third installment of the comedy-horror series was officially announced last year. Chris Columbus is set to direct. The filmmaker has already directed numerous films, including classics such as "Home Alone" and "Mrs. Doubtfire," as well as "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."

Gremlins 3: Chris Columbus to direct – Joe Dante sits this one out

Columbus is thus replacing Joe Dante, who directed the first two installments from 1984 and 1990. However, Columbus is very familiar with the franchise. The filmmaker wrote the screenplay for the first film. For "Gremlins 3," he is once again involved in the screenplay alongside Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.

As with the first two "Gremlins" films, Steven Spielberg is on board as executive producer this time as well. Kristie Macosko Krieger, Holly Bario, Michael Barnathan, and Mark Radcliffe are serving as producers. The theatrical release of "Gremlins 3" is scheduled for November 19, 2027.

When it comes to Gremlins, there are some rules that must be followed

The plot has been kept under wraps so far. Joe Dante's 1984 original is about a boy who is given a cute little creature as a pet: a Mogwai named Gizmo. However, there are some rules he must follow. The creature must never be exposed to sunlight. It must also never get wet. And it must not be fed after midnight. When the rules are broken anyway, Gizmo suddenly multiplies—and the offspring aren't quite as cute.

The film became a box office hit and led to the 1990 sequel "Gremlins 2: The New Batch." Joe Dante returned to direct. Charles S. Haas replaced Chris Columbus as screenwriter. It wasn't until 33 years later that "Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai," an animated series, followed—comprising two seasons with a total of 20 episodes so far and serving as a prequel to the two theatrical adventures. The story is set in the 1920s, initially in Shanghai and later in San Francisco.

Jenna Ortega: The Wednesday star's career is going strong

Whether or not we'll see Jenna Ortega in "Gremlins 3," the actress has no need to worry about a lack of work. For one thing, her film career is going brilliantly—thanks in no small part to the horror genre. In recent years, she has demonstrated her talent in several horror films. Most recently, she appeared in the horror comedies "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" and "Death of a Unicorn." Before that, she was part of the ensemble cast of two "Scream" films. She will soon star in the new film by director and screenwriter J. J. Abrams: "The Great Beyond."

In addition, she will return as the lead in "Wednesday." As the title character of the darkly humorous series, Ortega rose to international stardom. No wonder: the reimagining of the Addams Family character became a massive hit for Netflix. The first season of the series became the most-watched English-language Netflix series of all time. In it, Ortega plays the teenage Wednesday Addams, who gets expelled from school at the beginning of the series—after attacking her classmates with piranhas. She gets a fresh start at Nevermore Academy, an unusual private school where the monstrous is part of everyday life. In the upcoming third season, Ortega will appear alongside Eva Green and Winona Ryder. The two stars are among the new additions to the new season.

Good news from Gotham City! Production on "The Batman 2" is finally moving forward – and a star from the first film is back on board. As reported by Deadline magazine, Andy Serkis will once again take on the role of Alfred Pennyworth, continuing to serve as Bruce Wayne's loyal butler.

Serkis' involvement in "The Batman 2" had long been considered uncertain, as the star is currently heavily involved in the production of "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum". It therefore remains to be seen to what extent he will appear on screen this time.

In addition to the return of familiar faces like Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, and Barry Keoghan as the Joker, it is mainly the new additions that are causing a stir. Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are also set to take on leading roles. While Stan will portray District Attorney Harvey Dent, who later becomes the villain Two-Face, Johansson is set to play his wife, Gilda Dent, who serves as the film's central antagonist.

However, the casting of the key character Christopher Dent remains unresolved. Most recently, names like Liam Neeson and Daniel Craig were in the running. But nothing has happened since then. Filming for the sequel is set to begin in London in June. The theatrical release of "The Batman 2" is currently scheduled for October 1, 2027.

The Man of a Thousand Masks: The Impressive Career of Andy Serkis

In modern film history, Andy Serkis is regarded as the undisputed pioneer of an entirely new craft. While most Hollywood stars become famous for their striking looks, Serkis has often achieved worldwide fame behind a digital facade. He is the man who elevated "motion capture" technology from a technical gimmick to a serious art form.

His work is a fascinating journey through the boundaries of human expressiveness and demonstrates that true acting retains its soul even beneath layers of computer animation.

© Warner Bros.

The Birth of a Phenomenon: Gollum in Middle-earth

Andy Serkis's career is inextricably linked to Peter Jackson's monumental "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. When he took on the role of Gollum in the early 2000s, no one suspected that this would change cinema forever. Serkis lent the tragic creature not only his raspy voice, but every single nuance of his facial expressions and physicality.

He spent hours in a special suit to capture the movements of the creature corrupted by the Ring. The intensity of his performance was so powerful that it sparked a global debate for the first time about whether a digitally generated character deserved an Oscar nomination. Serkis managed to make the audience feel sympathy for a monster – a milestone in film history.

The Perfection of Facial Expressions: King Kong and the Planet of the Apes Saga

Following his success in Middle-earth, Serkis once again demonstrated his talent for animalistic roles. In the 2005 remake of "King Kong", he portrayed the giant gorilla. To make the role as authentic as possible, he studied the behavior of real primates in Rwanda. He gave the beast an emotional depth that went far beyond mere destructive rage.

However, he delivered what is arguably his most demanding performance in the modern "Planet of the Apes" trilogy. As the chimpanzee Caesar, he underwent an impressive character arc – from a curious young animal to the wise, war-weary leader of a revolution. The emotional precision with which Serkis portrayed Caesar's inner turmoil and his growing intellect is still considered the gold standard of performance capture today. Here it became clear once and for all: the technology is only as good as the actor who brings it to life.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Presence Without a Mask: Marvel and Star Wars

But it would be a mistake to reduce Andy Serkis solely to his digital roles. He proved that he possesses an enormous screen presence even without technical aids, notably in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the ruthless arms dealer Ulysses Klaue in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Black Panther", he displayed an eccentric, almost maniacal energy that thrilled audiences.

He also left a lasting mark on the "Star Wars" universe. While he still portrayed the sinister Supreme Leader Snoke via motion capture in the sequel trilogy, he delivered one of his most powerful physical performances in the series "Andor". As prison guard Kino Loy, he embodied a broken man who rises above himself. This role was celebrated by critics worldwide and once again proved his versatility as a character actor.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Alfred Pennyworth: A New Era in Gotham

Most recently, Serkis impressed in Matt Reeves' "The Batman" (2022) as Alfred Pennyworth. His interpretation of the iconic butler differs significantly from earlier versions; he is less the polite servant and more a weathered mentor with military discipline and deep concern for Bruce Wayne. The confirmation that he will reprise this role in the sequel shows just how indispensable Serkis has become to major franchises.

Andy Serkis has made the impossible possible: he has given technology a human heart. Whether as a tragic creature, a rebellious ape, or a loyal mentor – he remains one of the most influential artists of our time, continually redefining the magic of cinema.
