Lord of the Rings rumor: Kate Winslet could be involved in The Hunt For Gollum
There is already speculation about her role in the new film
"The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" is increasingly taking shape. Now Kate Winslet is also being touted as a possible actress for the new film. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the "Titanic" star is reportedly in talks for a role. However, it is still unclear whether she will actually appear in the film and what role she would play. There is already speculation that she could play Aragorn's mother Gilraen. Gollum's grandmother is also being mentioned as a possible role, but this is considered less likely.
The new "Lord of the Rings" film is set to complement the events of Peter Jackson's 2001 film "The Fellowship of the Ring." The focus will likely be on Aragorn, who sets out in search of Gollum on Gandalf's behalf. The film will be directed by Andy Serkis, who was already on board as an actor in Jackson's film adaptations. In the new "Lord of the Rings" adventure, he will once again take on the role of Gollum via motion capture, in addition to directing. But he has also already made a name for himself behind the camera with a major franchise. Among other things, he directed the superhero film "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" within the Spider-Man Universe.

High-profile Hollywood star
With Kate Winslet, the "Lord of the Rings" film would gain a high-profile Hollywood star. After her meteoric rise with "Titanic" in 1997, she has appeared in numerous other films throughout her successful career, repeatedly demonstrating her versatility. Most recently, she starred in the science fiction blockbuster "Avatar: Fire and Ash" and made her directorial debut with the family drama "Goodbye June." She has also made a name for herself on television in recent years, including as the lead actress in the HBO miniseries "The Regime." She had previously been in talks for a role in "Lord of the Rings." At the time, she was reportedly considered for the role of Éowyn in Peter Jackson's film adaptations, but did not have the necessary time. Instead, the role ultimately went to Miranda Otto.
Speculation about the new Aragorn actor
The theatrical release of the new "Lord of the Rings" film is scheduled for December 17, 2027. Apart from that, however, much remains unclear about "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." Ian McKellen is reportedly set to reprise his role as Gandalf. We could also see Elijah Wood return as Frodo. For Aragorn, however, there are said to be talks with a new actor. While the character was played by Viggo Mortensen in Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" films, Leo Woodall is now being touted as a possible candidate for the role. Many viewers know the actor from the second season of HBO's anthology series "The White Lotus." He currently stars alongside Rachel Weisz in the Netflix series "Vladimir."
Anya Taylor-Joy was recently brought into play as another potential candidate for "The Hunt for Gollum." She is known, among other things, as the lead actress in the mini-series "The Queen's Gambit" and as the title heroine of the apocalyptic action film "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga." It is not yet known what role she would play in the "Lord of the Rings" film if she were to be cast.
More stories for Lord of the Rings fans
Fans of "The Lord of the Rings" can look forward to new adventures from the popular fantasy world once conceived by novelist J. R. R. Tolkien. In addition to the planned film adaptation by Andy Serkis, there will also be new TV content. The third season of the Amazon Prime series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has already been confirmed. Unlike Peter Jackson's films, the events of the series take place thousands of years earlier, in the Second Age of Middle-earth. It tells the story of the creation of the eponymous rings and the rise of the central "Lord of the Rings" villain, Sauron. It is not yet known when season 3 of "The Rings of Power" will start on Amazon Prime. However, many assume that the new episodes will premiere in 2027 – the same year as the theatrical release of "The Hunt for Gollum."
