Not one week goes by without any new Marvel news: After the studio ended its collaboration with "Kang" actor Jonathan Majors due to his conviction, work on a new strategy regarding the opponent is still well underway. Initial rumors now suggest that the character may not need to be replaced at all.

Insider Daniel Richtman reported that Kang will continue to feature in the MCU, albeit no longer as the central villain in the next two "Avengers" films. Instead, another villain is to be introduced who will give the Avengers a hard time alongside Kang. Some time ago, rumors were already circulating on the internet that the studio apparently wanted to establish Dr. Doom as a new antagonist. Shortly after, an interview with Josh Brolin followed in which he revealed that he had heard rumors about a possible return of Thanos. That wouldn't be entirely far-fetched, after all, the current phases of the MCU are all about the multiverse.

Should there really be any truth to all this information, a new Kang actor would still be needed, though. One hot candidate for the role is Colman Domingo, who was recently Oscar-nominated for his performance in "Rustin". But John David Washington, known from Christopher Nolan's "Tenet", is also high up on the list.

Currently, the scripts for "Avengers 5" and "Avengers 6" are being revised by "Loki" author Michael Waldron after Marvel scrapped its previous plans one more time. However, these changes are said to have been made not because of the controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors, but rather as a result of the moderate success of "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania".

Despite the change of direction, the Avengers' next adventures will probably be released as scheduled in spring 2026 and 2027. However, it remains unknown who will direct both movies.
