Slowly but surely, the release of "Mad Max: Furiosa" is getting closer. As Variety reports, the prequel around the eponymous character is now said to have got the green light as well as a US theatrical release on June 23, 2023. After the acclaimed blockbuster "Mad Max: Fury Road," it is now time to tell the prequel story of Furiosa, who will not be portrayed by Charlize Theron this time. The role will be played by "The Witch" actress Anya Taylor-Joy, who is currently the talk of the town thanks to the Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit". Behind the camera is by the way "Mad Max" creator George Miller, who provides the appropriate production. Other cast members besides Taylor-Joy include Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The responsible studio Warner Bros. also made headlines, since only a theatrical release has been announced for "Furiosa". This comes as a surprise, because the studio recently announced that it would release all of its 2021 films simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters, and many assumed that this could also become a business strategy beyond the end of the year. So here's hoping that Warner's controversial method is really limited to 2021. The expected release date of "Mad Max. Furiosa" is on June 23, 2023, an European release date will surely follow soon.
