Ice Age 6: Boiling Point (2027) Movie Preview
Will the franchise get back on its feet?

The Ice Age is heating up more than ever: a new "Ice Age" movie is on its way! But as temperatures rise, so do many fans' concerns: will it be an epic comeback or the final downfall of the franchise? Here is everything you need to know!
What Has Happened So Far
One thing is clear: "Ice Age" is a cult classic! It all started in 2002 – and after 24 years, the franchise now consists of five movies and several spin-offs. However, it has been almost 10 years since Part 5 was released, and for a long time it was suspiciously quiet around another theatrical sequel. Then, in September 2024, Sid's voice actor John Leguizamo let the cat out of the bag: "Ice Age 6" is happening. An official announcement followed later, along with the title: "Ice Age: Boiling Point". This already offers a first hint at the possible storyline: apparently, temperatures are rising in the world of Manny, Sid, and Diego.
Disney's official description provides further details, describing the film as "a dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure that takes Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat and the rest of the herd to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World." The list of characters makes it clear who is guaranteed to return in the sequel. It has also been confirmed that actor Simon Pegg will be back. Pegg is the voice of Buck.
The Big Risk for Ice Age 6
Like many of you, we wonder what we can expect from a sixth film in the series. On the one hand, we are, of course, looking forward to seeing the familiar characters again. On the other hand, how many more stories can the franchise still tell?
The quality of the series has fluctuated in recent years. The fifth and latest installment, "Ice Age: Collision Course", already failed to win over many fans. And the Disney Plus spin-off "The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild" was likewise not particularly well received. If "Boiling Point" simply rehashes old ideas, we could be in for a big disappointment.
Moreover, the animation is no longer produced by the original Blue Sky Studios, which was closed by Disney in 2021. Instead, 20th Century Animation is now handling the project. This studio has previously worked on the "Buck Wild" spin-off, as well as on the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" films and the first "Simpsons" movie.
Despite these concerns, we haven't given up hope for a successful sequel. Even if the story turns out to have weaknesses, good jokes can make up for a lot. We will reserve judgment until the movie actually comes out.
The Theatrical Release of Ice Age 6
Before we see Manny, Sid, and Diego back on the big screen, we'll need a little more patience. The movie was originally scheduled for a December 2026 theatrical release. However, due to stiff competition from "Dune: Part 3" and "Avengers: Doomsday", the date has since been pushed back. "Ice Age 6" is now set to hit theaters on February 5, 2027.
