The Beast in Me Season 2: Netflix series starring Claire Danes continues

"The Beast in Me" continues. Netflix has now officially announced Season 2, starring Claire Danes. The star returns in the role of Aggie Wiggs. The series renewal is part of an exclusive partnership between Netflix and showrunner Howard Gordon, who will also be at the helm for the second season. This time, however, he will share the showrunner role with Daniel Pearle.

The fact that "The Beast in Me" is now continuing with a second season comes as quite a surprise. After all, the series was originally conceived as a miniseries. On the other hand, "The Beast in Me" is following a trend that has become increasingly common in recent years. Other star-studded miniseries, such as "Big Little Lies" with Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley, or more recently "Task" with Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey, and Emilia Jones, have also been renewed for an additional season after the fact.

What is The Beast in Me about?

At the center of "The Beast in Me" is author Aggie Wiggs, played by Claire Danes, who is writing a book about her new neighbor, Nile Jarvis. The explosive twist: Jarvis, portrayed by Matthew Rhys, is alleged to have committed a murder. The series was created by Gabe Rotter. "The Beast in Me" premiered on Netflix in November 2025 and consists of eight episodes. In addition to Danes and Rhys, the cast includes Brittany Snow, Natalie Morales, Jonathan Banks, David Lyons, Tim Guinee, Deirdre O'Connell, and Hettienne Park. For his role as Nile Jarvis, Matthew Rhys won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries, Movie, or Anthology Series at this year's Emmys, as reported by KinoCheck. "The Beast in Me" earned the actor his second award of the evening. Rhys also received the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for "Widow's Bay."

"The Beast in Me" showrunner Howard Gordon has previously been involved in several high-profile TV series. In the 1990s, the screenwriter was on board the mystery hit "The X-Files" for a time. This was followed by stints on the horror series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and its spin-off "Angel." Another successful production followed with "24": Gordon was one of the showrunners on the real-time thriller series. As for the second season of "The Beast in Me," Gordon already seems to know what it will be about – even though no details about the plot have been announced yet. According to Netflix, he says of the sequel:

"We always told ourselves we'd only do a second season of 'The Beast in Me' if we found a story that was worthy of the first – and I'm thrilled to say we found it. We loved making this show and our audience seemed to love watching it, so we're enormously grateful [...] to get the band back together and do it again."

Reunion with Claire Danes

Howard Gordon had already worked with Claire Danes before "The Beast in Me." In 2011, she took on the lead role in "Homeland," a thriller series developed by Gordon and Alex Gansa that spanned eight seasons and a total of 96 episodes. In the role of the complex protagonist Carrie Mathison, Danes shone across the board and once again demonstrated her acting prowess. For the actress, "Homeland" marked a spectacular return to television. She had already made a lasting impression on television years earlier with "My So-Called Life." Although the 1994 series lasted only one season, it remains highly popular to this day and is considered a coming-of-age classic.

And what's next for Claire Danes? In addition to her role in "The Beast in Me," she will also return in a film sequel. It was recently reported that she is on board for the sequel to the tragicomedy "The Family Stone." The first film was released in 2005 and centered on a turbulent Christmas celebration with the family. Along with Danes, other stars from the original film are also returning, including Rachel McAdams and Sarah Jessica Parker. However, it is not yet known when the film will be released.
