A Minecraft Movie 2: First Poster And Release Date

"A Minecraft Movie" was one of the biggest cinema sensations of 2025: only "Lilo & Stitch" and the Chinese box office hit "Ne Zha 2" were more commercially successful worldwide. A sequel is therefore naturally already in development. Warner Bros. has now released a first poster and the start date for "A Minecraft Movie 2".

According to media reports, it has already been decided who will be responsible for directing and writing the screenplay. The director of the first film, Jared Hess, will also direct the sequel. Continuity has also been established for the screenplay: Chris Galletta will once again write the script, this time together with Hess. It is not yet clear which actors will return for the sequel. In the first film, the main roles were played by Jack Black, "Aquaman" actor Jason Momoa, Sebastian Hansen, "Wednesday" star Emma Myers and Danielle Brooks.

However, "Minecraft" fans will have to wait a little longer. The theatrical release is scheduled for July 23, 2027. This means that the sequel will be released alongside another second part: "The Simpsons Movie 2". 20 years after "The Simpsons Movie", a new film is coming to cinemas. Parallels are already being drawn with the major cinema event "Barbenheimer". In 2023, Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie" were also released in cinemas at the same time, creating a worldwide phenomenon. The first names are already circulating: can we expect "Simpscraft" in 2027? It's not completely certain yet. In such cases, film studios often reschedule their releases to avoid competing with other blockbusters.

With "A Minecraft Movie", which was released in cinemas worldwide in April 2025, Warner Bros. took on a project that had been stuck in the planning phase for years. Director Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite") took on the task. The story centers on four outsiders: Garrett, Henry, Natalie and Dawn. When they are pulled through a mysterious portal into the world of "Minecraft", a turbulent adventure begins. There they encounter iconic creatures such as zombies and receive support from experienced crafter Steve, played by Jack Black. Together they not only have to survive in the pixelated world, but also find a way back to their reality. In the process, they discover courage, friendship and the power of cooperation.
