Harry Potter Season 2: Nicholas Hoult takes on a key role in the HBO series

A high-profile new addition to HBO's "Harry Potter" TV series: Nicholas Hoult will join the cast for the second season. The "Superman" star will take on the role of Gilderoy Lockhart, according to Deadline.
The character appeared 24 years ago in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," the second installment of the original film series, which – like the TV series – is based on J.K. Rowling's fantasy novels. At that time, the character was portrayed by Kenneth Branagh. In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," Gilderoy Lockhart plays an important role. He is a famous wizard known for numerous heroic deeds who arrives at Hogwarts as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. However, he is also a rather vain and fame-seeking individual.
Filming for the second season is set to begin soon
The second season of the "Harry Potter" series was commissioned even before the first season premiered. The series will start on HBO at Christmas 2026. Filming for the second season is set to begin as early as this fall. Behind the scenes of the upcoming "Harry Potter" series, there will be a change for the second season. Screenwriter Jon Brown will take on the role of co-showrunner. He will share the position with Francesca Gardiner, who is already leading the first season. Gardiner is also on board as an executive producer alongside director Mark Mylod and "Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling.
A total of seven seasons are planned. The idea is that each season will correspond in content to one of Rowling's seven books. The "Harry Potter" novels were already adapted for the big screen in the 2000s. At that time, Daniel Radcliffe played the title role. Rowling became a celebrated bestselling author with her fantasy books. In recent years, however, she has faced significant criticism. She has been accused of repeatedly making derogatory remarks about transgender people.
At the center of the novels and film adaptations is the eponymous hero, Harry Potter, who is accepted into the wizarding school Hogwarts as a young boy. There, over the years, he is trained to become a wizard and meets his best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Together, they face off against the sinister villain Lord Voldemort. Another major franchise for Nicholas Hoult
In the new series, we'll see Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall. With Nicholas Hoult, another big-name star is now joining the cast. The actor has already appeared in several major franchises. In the "X-Men" films, he took on the role of the Marvel superhero Beast, aka Hank McCoy. He also appeared in George Miller's post-apocalyptic action blockbuster "Mad Max: Fury Road" alongside Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.
Since last year, Hoult has also been part of the DC Universe: In James Gunn's blockbuster "Superman," he played Lex Luthor, one of the most famous villains in comic book history. And it won't be the last time he makes life difficult for the titular superhero. In the sequel, "Man of Tomorrow" – for which Gunn is once again directing and writing the screenplay – he'll also portray Superman's eternal archenemy.
