New Spider-Man Live-Action Series: Clone Saga Apparently in the Works for Prime Video

Following "Spider-Noir", the next live-action series from Sony's "Spider-Man" universe could already be in the works for Prime Video. According to Deadline, the "Clone Saga" – which centers on Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker – is set to be adapted for the screen.

Both characters have their origins in experiments in which clones of Peter Parker were created. In the comics, Ben Reilly is considered the more successful clone. After initially struggling with his origins for a long time, he develops his own identity as a superhero. Under the name Scarlet Spider, he eventually takes up the fight against evil himself.

Kaine Parker, on the other hand, is the first – and flawed – version of Peter Parker. Unlike Ben, Kaine is significantly more unstable and even becomes an adversary of Spider-Man. It remains to be seen how closely the upcoming production will actually follow the source material. According to the information available so far, the creators might alter some key elements of the "Clone Saga".

According to Deadline, a number of speculations suggest that Ben and Kaine will initially be confronted with the realization that they are clones. At the same time, they might have to deal with other doppelgängers. Among them is Spidercide, for example, who turns out to be a dangerous adversary. Although the project is still in the early stages of development, a screenwriter has apparently already been chosen. The name being mentioned is Kelvin Yu, who previously developed the series "American Born Chinese".

The next series follows Spider-Noir

The planned "Clone Saga" series wouldn't be the first collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television. It's part of a larger deal that calls for several series centered on characters and stories from Sony's Spider-Man universe. "Spider-Noir" was also part of that deal. However, the series starring Nicolas Cage was canceled by Prime Video after just one season. Although it was well-received by fans and played a key role at the Emmys, those in charge behind the scenes seemed to see little potential in a second season.

For the new series, however, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller will once again serve as producers. An unusual release strategy is apparently in the works: The project is set to premiere on the MGM+ streaming service before becoming available on Prime Video. It should be noted, however, that the series has not yet been officially ordered. There is also no information yet about the cast, the exact plot, or a possible premiere date.
