Update on the "Helldivers" movie: Alan Ritchson is in talks to join the cast. The "Reacher" star is set to replace Jason Momoa, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Momoa had dropped out in June.
"Helldivers" is based on the video game of the same name. In the dystopian source material, the Helldivers are a military special forces unit sent on intergalactic missions. A director has already been confirmed: Justin Lin will helm the project. The filmmaker made a name for himself with the "Fast & Furious" series, among other projects. As for the screenplay, Chris Bremner is said to have written the latest draft. The writer previously worked on the script for the action film "Bad Boys: Ride or Die." The release date for "Helldivers" has also been announced: The film is set to hit theaters on November 10, 2027.

Jason Momoa's departure was likely a disappointment for fans of the actor. However, his career is going brilliantly even without the role in "Helldivers." After making a name for himself with roles such as Khal Drogo in the fantasy series "Game of Thrones," he has also established himself on the big screen as a star of major franchises. He first joined the DC superhero universe as Aquaman. In recent years, he has starred in blockbusters such as "Dune" and "A Minecraft Movie." Most recently, he appeared as Lobo in "Supergirl." About three years ago, he starred alongside Vin Diesel in "Fast X" – which is particularly interesting in light of the "Helldivers" movie. That's because the cast of the action film also included none other than Alan Ritchson.
If he is indeed cast as Momoa's successor, "Helldivers" will have an actor who enjoys great popularity thanks to his role as the TV series hero Jack Reacher. But he's also currently appearing on the big screen. In the latest action film "Runner," he stars alongside Owen Wilson. Ritchson takes on the role of former elite soldier Hank Malone, who now makes a living as a courier for particularly sensitive cargo. His latest assignment is quite lucrative, but also extremely dangerous. He's tasked with transporting a vital organ for a terminally ill seven-year-old girl. Will there be a fifth season of Reacher?
Most viewers, however, have likely grown fond of Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher. As the tough title character of the series "Reacher," he's been upholding law and order for four seasons now. And that's set to continue for a while longer. The final episode of Season 4 aired just recently on Prime Video, and many are wondering: Will there be a Season 5 of "Reacher"? Alan Ritchson recently revealed on social media which "Reacher" book is his favorite. When a user expressed regret that the 1998 novel "Die Trying" hadn't yet been adapted for the series, the actor replied:
"My favorite book. Fun fact: I had it approved until someone got re-elected."
Apparently, the novel was also supposed to serve as the basis for a "Reacher" season. Ritchson doesn't specify which re-elected person he's referring to, but it's safe to assume he's talking about re-elected U.S. President Donald Trump. What is the novel "Die Trying" about? Jack Reacher and a politician's daughter are kidnapped by a radical, racist militia. Who knows – maybe the book will still serve as the basis for a "Reacher" season one day.
