Overview
A few months after defeating Dr. Robotnik, Sonic lives with Tom and Maddie Wachowski and tries to act as a superhero. When Tom and Maddie travel to Hawaii for Rachel's sister's wedding, Sonic is attacked by Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) , who has returned with Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba) to find the legendary Master Emerald. Miles "Tails" Prower (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) , a two-tailed fox, rescues Sonic and helps him find the Master Emerald before Robotnik and Knuckles do. The search leads them to a temple in Siberia and finally to Hawaii. It turns out that Rachel's fiancé and the wedding guests are G.U.N. undercover agents. Robotnik manages to steal the Master Emerald and gain great power by creating a giant robot, the Death Egg Robot. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles face one last great battle...

The film was produced by Original Film, Marza Animation Planet and Blur Studio in collaboration with Sega Sammy Group and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
The movie covers various events from the video games in the series, primarily from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992) , Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994) and Sonic & Knuckles (1994).
The film was directed by Jeff Fowler and the screenplay was written by Josh Miller, Patrick Casey and John Whittington. The film was commercially successful and grossed over 405 million US dollars worldwide.
