Dutton Ranch: Season 2 has been officially confirmed – even before the first season has ended
The Yellowstone spin-off recently set a record
Good news for all "Dutton Ranch" fans! The second season of the "Yellowstone" spin-off has been officially confirmed – even before the Season 1 finale has aired. The final episode, titled "El Padrino," will premiere on July 3, 2026, on Paramount+.
The renewal isn't too much of a surprise. After all, "Dutton Ranch" has proven to be a huge success for Paramount+. The first few episodes alone set a record for the streaming service. The series had the most successful launch in Paramount+ history: the first two episodes racked up 12.9 million views worldwide within the first seven days of their release. With this, "Dutton Ranch" managed to surpass the previous Paramount+ leader, "MobLand." The gangster series starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren debuted in 2025 with 8.8 million views.
Two characters from Yellowstone take center stage in Dutton Ranch
"Dutton Ranch" centers on two characters already familiar to viewers from the neo-Western series "Yellowstone," created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson: Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and Beth's husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). The couple is trying to build a new life for themselves in South Texas. But that's easier said than done. That's because Beth and Rip find themselves up against a ruthless, rival ranch. Or as the series' logline puts it: "Forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival just might be your soul."
In addition to Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, the series' cast includes Finn Little, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J. R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, and Natalie Alyn Lind. The cast also features two particularly prominent Hollywood stars: Ed Harris and Annette Bening. Harris is known for numerous films, such as "The Truman Show." He has also made a lasting impression on TV through his role in the sci-fi series "Westworld." Bening made a name for herself in "American Beauty," among other films. For her acclaimed performance in the film, she received, along with other honors, an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
The showrunner of Dutton Ranch has stepped down
"Dutton Ranch" was created by Chad Feehan, who also served as showrunner for the first season. Alongside Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, he is also on board as an executive producer. For the second season, however, the series will need a new showrunner – Feehan has stepped down. That said, some of Taylor Sheridan's series apparently do without a traditional showrunner anyway – instead, the showrunner's duties are handled by directors on set in such cases, as Deadline explains.
It remains to be seen whether this will also be the case for "Dutton Ranch." In any way, the series' directors to date include Greg Yaitanes, who was involved in the production of the fantasy series "House of the Dragon," among other projects, as well as Christina Alexandra Voros, who has already directed several episodes of "Yellowstone." Voros also serves as an executive producer on "Dutton Ranch."
Dutton Ranch isn't the only spin-off
With the renewal of "Dutton Ranch," the "Yellowstone" universe remains on a path to success – especially since the series is by no means the only spin-off. The series centered on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler is already the fifth installment in the popular franchise. The original "Yellowstone" premiered in 2018 and, over the course of five seasons, centered on the Dutton family's ranch in Montana. From the very beginning, the series boasted a big name: Kevin Costner. However, the Hollywood star left the show shortly before it ended.
The first spin-offs weren't long in coming. First came the two prequels, "1883" and "1923," which, as their titles suggest, were set in the 19th century and the 1920s, respectively. Two sequels followed in 2026: first "Marshals" and then "Dutton Ranch." It's still too early to say exactly what we can expect from the now-confirmed second season. No plot details have been released yet, and a premiere date has not been announced either.
