The release date for the last episodes has been set: The fourth and final season of "Yellowjackets" will premiere on November 20, 2026, on Paramount+, as officially announced by the streaming service.

The series centers on a high school girls' soccer team that crashes in a remote wilderness in 1996 and must fight for survival from that point on. At the same time, the series shows what happens 25 years later. Some members of the group not only survived the crash but also found their way back to civilization. However, they are haunted by the events in the wilderness, which were as mysterious as they were traumatic. The fourth season of "Yellowjackets" will now bring the series' storyline to a close. Initial details about the plot of the new episodes are already officially available:

"As the survivors race to bury their sins before rescue arrives and an old flame roars back into town with plans of her own, turns out not every homecoming is a joyous one, and this one's going to sting."

The Final Reckoning

The new episodes will premiere about 19 months after the end of Season 3 – which corresponds to the amount of time the teenagers spent in the wilderness after the plane crash, as The Hollywood Reporter notes. In any case, reintegration into society is likely to play a central role in the new episodes. This is an aspect that seems to be close to the heart of the co-creator of "Yellowjackets" as well. Ashley Lyle told The Hollywood Reporter:

"To be able to tell the story of the reassimilation into society, to see what horrors are in store for them even without the horrors of the wilderness, is very exciting."

The premiere date for the new season was announced with a short video that creatively teases the students' rescue. It features a series of 90s-style TV screens showing, among other things, breaking news reports about how the soccer team was found. The screens then display the premiere date of the new "Yellowjackets" episodes, followed by the caption: "The Final Reckoning." You can watch the video here:

The horror in Yellowjackets raises questions

"Yellowjackets" premiered in 2021. The series was created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, who serve as showrunners alongside Jonathan Lisco. From the very beginning, "Yellowjackets" captivated audiences with an impressive cast, including Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Ella Purnell, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis. Over time, other notable actors joined the cast, including "The Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood and Oscar winner Hilary Swank.

In terms of content, "Yellowjackets" is notable in part because it's not always clear exactly which genre it belongs to. In other words: It's not always clear whether the horror depicted stems exclusively from the psychological state of the traumatized characters – or whether the terror also has a supernatural dimension. In any case, viewers can look forward to seeing how the series will conclude in its final episodes.
