Are We Getting Another Film from Paul Thomas Anderson?

Will "One Battle After Another" actually get a sequel? At least Perfidia actress Teyana Taylor would like to see her character's story continue. She has now confirmed to the IndieWire that she has already approached director Paul Thomas Anderson about this.

"The conversations are very, very real. I want to give everybody confirmation that I am currently begging PTA [Paul Thomas Anderson] to give us that."

In her opinion, the story of Perfidia Beverly Hills still has room for more – especially in terms of the mother-daughter relationship with Willa (Chase Infiniti).

"Perfidia and Willa need some scenes together. When Willa walked out the door in that last scene, I said, 'Where's she really going? Is she going to free Deandra? Is she going to find her mommy?' I love that it's still hopeful, and it's room for a little part two in there somewhere."

So is there really a possibility of a sequel? A look at Paul Thomas Anderson's filmography makes one less than optimistic. The filmmaker is anything but known for sequels. Whether he will make an exception for "One Battle After Another" remains to be seen.

For now, however, the cast and crew are likely to be focused on the Oscars. "One Battle After Another" has received multiple nominations, including Best Picture. Teyana Taylor (Actress in a Supporting Role), Paul Thomas Anderson (Directing), and Leonardo DiCaprio (Actor in a Leading Role) also have a chance. You can find all the nominees at a glance here.

The films of Paul Thomas Anderson

Paul Thomas Anderson has been one of Hollywood's most influential filmmakers since the 1990s. He made his debut with "Hard Eight", a quiet neo-noir about gambling, guilt, and surrogate families. His breakthrough came shortly thereafter with "Boogie Nights" starring Mark Wahlberg, which remains hugely popular to this day.

Anderson's next film was "Magnolia". Many fans consider Tom Cruise's performance in Magnolia one of his best. The rest of the cast is also impressive, from Philip Seymour Hoffman to Julianne Moore and William H. Macy to John C. Reilly. The episodic drama intertwines numerous characters and destinies in Los Angeles and is still considered one of Anderson's most ambitious projects. He then struck a more intimate tone with "Punch-Drunk Love", starring Adam Sandler – an unusual romantic tragicomedy.

The rise to Hollywood Olympus with There Will Be Blood

Anderson achieved what is probably his greatest artistic and critical success with his masterpiece "There Will Be Blood". The historical drama about oil entrepreneur Daniel Plainview – played by Daniel Day-Lewis – is considered a modern classic of American cinema. The film paints a bleak picture of capitalism and obsession and earned Day-Lewis an Oscar. Today, "There Will Be Blood" is considered by many to be one of the greatest films of the 21st century.

This was followed by "The Master", a psychologically complex drama starring none other than Philip Seymour Hoffman, with whom Anderson has collaborated several times. The director remained experimental thereafter: in "Inherent Vice", he adapted a novel by Thomas Pynchon and created a deliberately confusing neo-noir. Later films such as "Phantom Thread", an elegant drama about an eccentric fashion designer in 1950s London – and "Licorice Pizza", a nostalgic coming-of-age story set in 1970s California, once again demonstrate Anderson's range.

With "One Battle After Another," he continues this diverse filmography. For many film fans, it is the film of the year 2025. "One Battle After Another" offers strong acting, a clever script, and impressive set pieces. We can now look forward to seeing how the film will fare at the Academy Awards.

A similar case of a sequel?

With regard to a possible sequel, it is also interesting to look at a similar case: In the interview with IndieWire, the name "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" was also mentioned as a possible example. Here, too, no one would have thought it possible that the story of a character would be continued in a new film. Like Anderson, Quentin Tarantino is not known for sequels. Nevertheless, Brad Pitt is returning this year with "The Adventures of Cliff Booth". This time, however, Tarantino is only responsible for the script, with another master of his craft, David Fincher, taking over the directing duties.
