The Batman 2: Scarlett Johansson and other new stars confirmed
Director Matt Reeves has warmly welcomed them to the cast
Update on "The Batman 2": It has long been considered a done deal that Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Charles Dance will be part of the sequel. Now, "Batman" director Matt Reeves has warmly welcomed them to the cast. The filmmaker greeted the stars via social media. But the confirmations didn't stop with Johansson, Stan, and Dance. Reeves also dedicated a social media post to Brian Tyree Henry and German actor Sebastian Koch to make it clear: these two actors are also new to the cast.
Brian Tyree Henry is known, among other things, for his role in the monster spectacle "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." Sebastian Koch starred in the Oscar-winning drama "The Lives of Others" and has also garnered international attention, for example in the action film "A Good Day to Die Hard." It remains to be seen what roles the two will take on in "The Batman: Part II."
Robert Pattinson & Co.: The Batman 2 boasts an illustrious cast
As for Sebastian Stan, known from several Marvel films as the Winter Soldier, it has been assumed for some time that he will play Harvey Dent in the "Batman" sequel. He could play a central role in the film – after all, in the "Batman" comics, he becomes one of the most famous supervillains: Two-Face. There is talk that Scarlett Johansson could portray Harvey's wife, Gilda Dent. Fittingly, Johansson has also appeared in several Marvel films as Black Widow. It is speculated that "Game of Thrones" actor Charles Dance will portray Harvey Dent's violent father.
One thing is certain: Robert Pattinson will once again play the titular superhero Batman, aka Bruce Wayne. Other returning cast members include Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. No doubt about it: this ensemble is impressive. However, we'll have to be patient a little longer before we can see the cast in action. "The Batman 2" hits theaters on October 1, 2027.
The Batman 2 is set to focus more on the character of Bruce Wayne
Director Matt Reeves' sequel has been in the works for quite some time. "The Batman 2" was first announced four years ago. After several delays, it was finally announced last June that the screenplay by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin had been completed. Nevertheless, the question remains: What will the new "Batman" film starring Robert Pattinson be about? At the moment, it's impossible to say. So far, Reeves has stated that the sequel will focus more on the character of Bruce Wayne. No further details have been revealed. A first trailer for "The Batman 2," which could shed some light on the matter, is also still pending. At least Reeves recently treated us to a small preview. The director posted the first images from the production on social media. Under the hashtag SnowTires, he shared two photos of the Batmobile on the move while it appears to be snowing.
The photos don't give us much more insight. As we previously reported, however, the winter setting could hint at a different sequel to "Batman." With "Batman Returns," director Tim Burton once continued his first "Batman" film adaptation from 1989. With Michael Keaton as Batman, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, and Danny DeVito as the Penguin, the sequel boasted a star-studded cast. And: It was set in winter. Now, "The Batman 2" is set to premiere in theaters in 2027 – 35 years after "Batman Returns." Thus, a snow-covered Gotham could be a lovely tribute to the 35th anniversary of Burton's classic. In any case, expectations are sky-high – both in terms of content and financially. The predecessor grossed $772 million at the global box office. "The Batman 2" will have to measure up to that.
