Man of Tomorrow: Andor star cast in the Superman sequel
The cast is already looking impressive!
There has been speculation for a long time, but now it's becoming a reality! According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Andor" star Adria Arjona is set to take on a central role in the upcoming blockbuster "Superman 2: Man of Tomorrow". Although an official confirmation from Warner Bros. is still pending, there are strong indications that Arjona will step into the role of Maxima, the queen of the planet Almerac.
Maxima's people are the result of centuries of genetic optimization, which is why she is on a very special mission: she is searching for the perfect partner to continue the most powerful bloodline in the universe. Her eyes fall on Superman. However, since he shows little interest in an arranged union for genetic reasons, the rejection inevitably leads to conflict.
In "Man of Tomorrow," David Corenswet returns in the title role as Superman, while Nicholas Hoult once again takes on the role of Lex Luthor. The plot forces the two eternal arch-enemies into an unusual alliance, as they can only stand together against the massive threat posed by the villain Brainiac. None other than Lars Eidinger has been cast as Brainiac!
In addition to the lead actors, numerous other familiar faces are back on board. Among others, Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion in the role of Guy Gardner. Aaron Pierre will also appear as John Stewart.
According to initial reports, filming is set to begin next week. "Man of Tomorrow" hits theaters on July 9, 2027.
James Gunn's Ensemble Approach
One thing is clear: James Gunn loves ensemble films. Whether it's "Guardians of the Galaxy" or "The Suicide Squad" – he has repeatedly shown that he knows how to bring many characters to life at once. "Superman" also featured a large number of characters. On top of that: Gunn has emphasized that "Man of Tomorrow" shouldn't be seen as a direct sequel; instead, he says the situation is somewhat "complicated." He has already hinted that it's less of a film about Superman and more of a larger story involving multiple characters. At the same time, however, this also leaves the door open for more old and new characters – maybe we'll even see the debut of the new Wonder Woman!
Added to this is the close connection with the series "Peacemaker". Gunn has already revealed that the second season leads directly into the events of "Man of Tomorrow." This means: characters we know from the series could suddenly appear alongside Superman – or get in his way. However, such a tight integration of movies and series might not please everyone: the MCU has already faced frequent criticism that, in such cases, the big picture eventually gets lost. We're curious to see if James Gunn will prove to have a better knack for this.

The DCU's New Strategy
And that brings us to perhaps the most important point: the overarching strategy behind "Man of Tomorrow". In their inaugural address as the new heads of DC, James Gunn and Peter Safran made it clear: Superman will be the heart of the universe. That sounds as though all DCU films are meant to fit together into a harmonious whole – unlike the old DCEU. That's why the so-called "DC Elseworlds" were introduced, which include films like "Joker" or "The Batman". This category encompasses everything that doesn't fit into the rest of the DCU.
But what surprises us: When it comes to the "Clayface" movie, Gunn strikes a slightly different note. The Batman spin-off is explicitly not part of the Elseworlds, but is supposed to be a true horror film. Gunn justifies this by saying that every DCU movie should feel fresh and that you should never be sure what to expect.
It's definitely going to be exciting! "Man of Tomorrow" will be the litmus test for James Gunn's entire vision. If Superman works as the centerpiece, DC can finally take the clear direction that fans have been missing for years.
