The time has finally come! While social networks have been flooded with supposed leaks almost daily over the past few weeks, things have remained suspiciously quiet from the official side. But the wait now seems to be over: The official Sony Pictures site Kazakhstan announced that the trailer for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will be released next Wednesday, March 16!

This coincides with the announcements of numerous Hollywood insiders. According to Daniel Richtman, who is considered a reliable source of information from the film industry, another trailer is even set to see the light of day: "Dune 3". The Trailer Track portal, which specializes in the analysis and publication of trailer launches, also confirmed this. So it seems that movie fans will get their money's worth this week. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will be released in cinemas on July 31, 2026.

What is known about the new Spidey adventure

The end of "No Way Home" offers the perfect opportunity to reboot the series: thanks to the magic of Doctor Strange, no one remembers Peter Parker – he is completely alone. "Brand New Day" picks up exactly at this point. The title is a direct allusion to a famous comic story from 2008, in which the events from the old stories were also reversed – including Peter's marriage to Mary Jane Watson. The reset also clears the way for new friends, enemies - and perhaps even a new love.

According to producer Amy Pascal, the focus of the story is that Peter wants to leave his human identity behind: no more Peter Parker, just Spider-Man. This conflict between duty and personal happiness probably forms the heart of the film.

The cast: old heroes and new faces

The cast of "Brand New Day" will probably feel pretty fresh: Tom Holland will meet many new colleagues. According to insiders, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will only make brief appearances – Peter's loss should therefore be clearly felt. Instead, other characters will be in the spotlight who really pack a punch.

The Punisher: Frank Castle takes to the stage

Probably the biggest surprise: Jon Bernthal is joining the cast as Frank Castle aka The Punisher! After his celebrated appearances in the series, the brutal anti-hero is now finally part of the movie MCU. We are curious to see how the Punisher's toughness will fit in with a Spider-Man film. Insiders report that the two are initially opponents – until they are forced to fight side by side.

The Hulk returns

Mark Ruffalo is officially back as the Hulk – but in a different way to how we last saw him. The charming "Smart Hulk" is probably history: according to rumors, Banner loses control again – with dramatic consequences for New York. It is unclear how the return of the wild Hulk will come about. In the meantime, there have been speculations that the villain Mr. Negative will play a role – but according to new insider reports, he is not part of the film.

Sadie Sink as the Punisher's sidekick

There are big question marks over the role of "Stranger Things" actress Sadie Sink. However, her look in leaked set pictures provides the first clues: Camouflage pants, combat boots, military jacket. Fans are guessing that she is playing Rachel Cole-Alves: a soldier who becomes an ally of the Punisher after a personal loss. Others believe that Sink could be playing a new version of Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane. After all, Sink and Mary Jane have one striking thing in common: red hair.

All kinds of villains

The Enforcers could also play a role. As a team of super villains, the Enforcers are already known from the comic books published by Marvel. There, they usually make life difficult for Spider-Man or Daredevil as contract killers. Their first appearance was decades ago. They made their debut in 1964 in the comic series "The Amazing Spider-Man". The original members of the Enforcers are Ox alias Raymond Bloch, Montana alias Jackson Brice and Fancy Dan alias Daniel Brito.

Trammell Tillman in a secret role

In addition, "Severance" actor Tramell Tillman has also been cast – and the rumor mill is churning. Speculation ranges from various villains to Jefferson Davis, the father of Miles Morales. According to Kevin Feige, however, he will not be introduced until after the new "Avengers" films at the earliest, when Sony has completed its "Spider-Verse" trilogy.

The story: criminals instead of world destroyers

In "No Way Home", the boundaries of the multiverse were blown up. "Brand New Day" brings the story back down to earth. That sounds to us like a threat from a gangster boss like Kingpin – and an unleashed Hulk causing chaos on the streets of New York. And then, of course, there's the Punisher, who could leave a bloody trail through New York. Nevertheless, many fans are probably still waiting for a fresh villain that we've never seen in the MCU before. Perhaps we will soon be presented with a name that no one has yet had on their radar. Who would you like to see? Let us know in the comments!

Behind the scenes

There's a big change behind the camera: director Jon Watts, who shot the last three "Spidey" films with Tom Holland, is no longer involved. In his place comes Destin Daniel Cretton – known for "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings". The new director is doing things differently.

Compared to "No Way Home", for example, significantly less green screen is used. One particularly exciting detail: Jackie Chan's stunt team has been hired for the action scenes! It sounds as if we can expect some martial arts sequences in "Brand New Day". Cretton's previous contribution to the MCU already showed clear influences from Chinese action cinema.

But don't worry: not everything behind the scenes is new. The screenplay was once again written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The two have already written the stories for the first three "Spider-Man" films with Tom Holland. So hopefully we'll get a story of the usual quality – with one or two updates in the presentation.
