Star Wars: Starfighter: Mia Goth Cast for New Film with Ryan Gosling
The movie will be directed by "Deadpool & Wolverine" director Shawn Levy
Casting addition for the upcoming "Star Wars" film: At Star Wars Celebration 2025, it was already announced that Ryan Gosling will take on the lead role in the upcoming "Star Wars: Starfighter". Now, several media outlets are reporting on the casting of Mia Goth.
Mia Goth in Star Wars: Starfighter
The actress is best known for the horror films "X", "Pearl" and "MaXXXine". She has a number of high-profile projects lined up for the future as well: Later this year, she will be seen in Guillermo del Toro's new interpretation of "Frankenstein" on Netflix. She is also part of the cast of Christopher Nolan's action epic "The Odyssey". There she will be in front of the camera alongside stars such as Matt Damon, Tom Holland and Zendaya.

She will also play alongside a superstar in "Star Wars: Starfighter". According to the trade portal The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Gosling will play a character who must protect a young charge from evil pursuers. Mia Goth is to play one of these pursuers. According to the portal, this year's Oscar winner Mikey Madison was initially intended for the role. However, the casting process came to nothing due to money matters.
Further Details on the Plot and Story
The movie will be directed by "Deadpool & Wolverine" director Shawn Levy. At Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, Levy revealed a few more details about "Starfighter":
"It's not a prequel, not a sequel. It's a new adventure. It's set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet."
"Starfighter" is therefore a stand-alone story with new characters, independent of the well-known Skywalker saga. The movie is set five years after "Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker".
Release Date for Star Wars: Starfighter
Filming is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2025. A release date is already known, too: "Starfighter" will be released in cinemas on May 28, 2027.
The Mandalorian & Grogu
"Star Wars" fans can look forward to the movie "The Mandalorian & Grogu" a good year earlier. Some information about this is already known: The first trailer was shown at the Star Wars Celebration. However, it is not yet available to a wider audience. The story probably follows on directly from the third season of "The Mandalorian": Our heroes are recruited for a new mission. As you might remember, at the end of Season 3, Din Djarin suggested working as an unofficial bounty hunter on behalf of the New Republic in the future.
It is very likely that this is not just another series adventure. After all, we are seeing Mando and Grogu in the movies for the very first time – which speaks for a central chapter in their story. At the moment, we can only speculate as to what exactly it will be about. For example, it could be about Grogu's connection with the Force: After all, Luke Skywalker briefly took over his training, but Grogu decided against it. It is thus possible that the Jedi Master could play a role in the movie again.
Cast
In addition to Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, other characters and actors are now also known. One of them is sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver. According to the trailer, she plays a Republic commander and can be seen in an orange pilot's outfit. In addition, "The Bear" star Jeremy Allen White takes on the voice of Jabba's son Rotta the Hutt. The trailer has also revealed: We can look forward to an appearance by Zeb Orrelios. The character is known from the series "Star Wars: Rebels" and also played a minor role in Season 3 of "The Mandalorian".
The Crew Behind the Scenes
Jon Favreau, who launched the MCU with "Iron Man" and developed "The Mandalorian", is once again directing. He is supported by Dave Filoni, the intellectual father of many modern Star Wars projects such as "The Clone Wars", "Rebels", "Ahsoka" and "The Mandalorian". Lucasfilm is therefore relying on a well-coordinated creative team.
The theatrical release of "The Mandalorian & Grogu" is already known. The movie will celebrate its premiere on May 22, 2026. If you want to watch all seasons of "The Mandalorian" again before then, you can do so on Disney+. You can also find our big special video on the current status of "Star Wars" right here. Enjoy!
